You printed the flyer.

Then someone scanned it on an iPhone and landed in the Google Play Store.

So you made a second QR code. Then a landing page with two buttons. Then a little line of text explaining which one to tap, which nobody reads.

There is a much simpler way to do this, and it takes about five minutes.

To create one QR code that sends people to the right app store, go to your HighLevel sub-account, click Sites, select QR Codes in the top right, click Create QR Code, then choose the Apps type. You enter an iOS URL, an Android URL, and a fallback URL, and the code routes each person automatically based on their device.

Here is the whole setup, click by click.

What you need before you start

  • Access at the sub-account level in HighLevel. If you do not have an account yet, you canstart a 30-day free trial here

  • The Apple App Store link for your app

  • The Google Play Store link for your app

  • One more link for anything that is not a phone, like your website

That last one matters more than people expect. More on that below.

Create the QR code

Step 1: Get to the sub-account level

Make sure you are inside the sub-account, not the agency view.

If the left sidebar does not match what you see below, you are one level too high. Switch in first.

Step 2: Click Sites

On the left-hand side, scroll down and clickSites.

Step 3: Open QR Codes

Go to the top right and selectQR Codes.

Step 4: Click Create QR Code

Click the blueCreate QR Codebutton.

Step 5: Name it

Give the QR code a name.

Name it for where it is going to live, not for the app. "Front desk sign" tells you something six months from now. "App QR" tells you nothing when you have eleven of them.

Point it at the right stores

Step 6: Choose the Apps type

On the lower right of the menu, selectApps, then clickNext.

You will see three URL fields. One for iOS, one for Android, and one for other.

Step 7: Paste your store links

Grab the Google Play Store link for your app and paste it into the Android field.

Grab the Apple App Store link and paste it into the iOS field.

The trap here is pasting your app's marketing page instead of the actual store listing. Open each store, find your app, and copy the URL from the address bar. That is the link that opens the store app directly instead of bouncing someone through a browser.

Step 8: Fill in the other field

Do not leave this one blank.

"Other" catches everyone who is not on an iPhone or an Android phone. Someone scanning from a laptop webcam, a tablet, an older device. Send them to your website or a page explaining how to get the app, so nobody hits a dead end.

ClickNext.

Make it look like your brand

This is the part most people rush, and it is why so many QR codes look like something printed off a receipt.

You can adjust all of this:

  • Background color, white by default

  • Dot color, change it to your brand color

  • Marker border colorandcenter color, the three squares in the corners

  • Shape and form, square, rounded, or circular

  • Dot size and appearance, including a larger look

  • Marker borderandmarker center, square or circular

  • Border and frame, set to none by default, with a color picker for the frame

  • Logo, upload your own image or pick from the built-in icons, including social media and payment icons, with a toggle to remove the background behind it

  • Page background, upload an image for the whole page and adjust its transparency

  • Rim content, the text around the code, like Scan Me or Earn Points Now

  • Footer text, with its own font family and color

One warning on all of this. A QR code works because of contrast between the dots and the background. If you pick two colors that are close in value, or a busy background image, scanners struggle. Keep the dots dark and the background light, or the reverse. Pretty and unscannable helps nobody.

Step 9: Save

ClickSave.

A real scenario for a boutique fitness studio

Say you run marketing for a small studio with about 300 members and a booking app.

Members keep calling the front desk to book classes because they never downloaded the app.

Here is what you do:

  1. You build one QR code called "Front desk and mirror decals"

  2. Android gets the Google Play link, iOS gets the App Store link, and other goes to the studio's booking page so a laptop scan still works

  3. You set the dots in the studio's brand color, add the logo in the center, and put "Book your next class" in the rim content

  4. You print it on a small card at the front desk, a decal on the studio mirrors, and drop it into the welcome email for new members

  5. Every member scans the same code and lands in the right store, on the first try

No second QR code. No landing page with two buttons. No front desk staff explaining which link to tap.

That same setup works for a restaurant loyalty app, a med spa membership app, a church app, or a client's white-labeled platform. If you want to build it for your clients, start your 30 days free here.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Working at the agency level. The path starts inside the sub-account.

  • Pasting a marketing page instead of a store listing.Copy the URL from inside the App Store and Google Play, not from your website.

  • Leaving the other field blank.Every laptop and tablet scan hits nothing.

  • Choosing brand colors with low contrast. If the dots and background are close in value, phones cannot read the code.

  • Printing before testing.Scan it with an iPhone and an Android before anything goes to a printer.

Frequently asked questions

Where are QR codes in HighLevel?

QR codes live under Sites in a HighLevel sub-account. Click Sites in the left sidebar, then select QR Codes in the top right. From there, click the blue Create QR Code button to start a new one, name it, and choose which type of QR code you want to build.

How does one QR code send iPhone and Android users to different places?

When you choose the Apps type, you enter three separate URLs, one for iOS, one for Android, and one for everything else. The code detects the device doing the scanning and routes each person to the matching link automatically, so a single printed code works for every phone.

What should I put in the other URL field?

Use your website or a simple page explaining how to get the app. That field catches anyone not scanning from an iPhone or Android phone, such as a laptop webcam or an unsupported device. Leaving it blank means those people scan your code and land nowhere at all.

Can I add my logo and brand colors to the QR code?

Yes. You can change the background color, the dot color, the marker border and center colors, the shape of the code and dots, and add a frame. You can upload your own logo or use a built-in icon, and add text around the rim and in the footer.

Do I need a paid plan to make QR codes?

QR codes sit inside the Sites section of a HighLevel sub-account, so you need an active account to build them. You can create and test them during the30-day free trialand see how they work for your own business before deciding.

Will the QR code still work if I change the app links later?

Open the QR code in HighLevel and update the URLs there. The printed code itself points at your HighLevel destination, so the artwork stays the same. This is why building app links this way beats generating a static code that locks the destination in forever.
