How To Sell AI Voice Agents To Local Businesses

Disclosure: I am an independent entity from HighLevel, not an agent or employee. I earn a commission if you sign up through my links, at no extra cost to you.

A roofer pays four thousand dollars for a website.

It sits there. It looks nice. It does nothing.

No follow-up. No lead capture. Nobody answering at 7pm when a woman with water coming through her bathroom ceiling picks up her phone.

She calls the next roofer on the list.

That is the gap you get to fill, and local businesses are paying well for someone to fill it.

To sell AI voice agents to local businesses, install a pre-built voice agent from the HighLevel marketplace, embed it on the business's website as a chat widget, find prospects on Google Maps who have no website or a weak one, and let them talk to a live demo instead of pitching them. The demo does the closing.

Here is the whole thing, start to finish.

What you need before you start

  • A HighLevel account. If you do not have one yet, you canstart a 30-day free trial here

  • About an hour to build your first agent and your demo

  • One niche to start with. Roofers, plumbers, HVAC, med spas, any business that loses money when the phone goes unanswered

No coding. No developer. No course.

What you are actually selling

Most local business websites are brochures. Someone reads a little and leaves, and nobody ever knows they were there.

A smart website works while the owner sleeps:

  • An AI voice agent that answers questions and books appointments in real time

  • Smart forms that capture leads automatically

  • A chat widget that talks like a person instead of a form

That is the difference you are selling. Not a website. A phone that always gets answered.

Part one, build the voice agent

Step 1: Go to AI Agents, then Voice AI

Inside your account, openAI Agentsand selectVoice AI.

Step 2: Click Create Agent

The button is at the top right.

Step 3: Browse the marketplace

HitContinueand browse.

This is the part people miss. There are agents already built for you, sorted by category. There is a voice AI that books appointments for home service businesses. There are self-selling demo agents, which we will come back to.

You do not have to build anything from scratch. You can, but there is no prize for it.

Step 4: Install the one that fits

Click the agent, hit install, follow the prompts, and give it a few minutes.

Then go back toVoice AIand open your agent list. Your installed agent is sitting there. Mine is called Front Door AI.

Step 5: Fill in the custom values

Click into the agent and fill in the business details.

This is what lets the agent handle a call correctly. Skip it and the agent sounds like it has never heard of the business it works for. It takes five minutes and it is the difference between impressive and embarrassing.

Step 6: Test it with a web chat

Start a web chat and talk to your agent before you deploy it anywhere.

Ask it the awkward questions a real customer would ask. Fix what sounds off. Then move on.

Part two, the website

You have three paths here, depending on what the business already has.

They have no website.Go toSites, thenWebsites, thenNew Website. There are over a thousand templates. Search your niche, for example "roof," and sort by most popular to see what other people are actually using. Pick one and make it theirs.

You want something custom fast.Use AI Studio to generate a website live. It does a genuinely good job.

They already have a website.Leave it alone. You are just adding the widget, which means no redesign conversation and a much faster yes.

Part three, put the agent on the site

Step 7: Go to Sites, then Chat Widget

SelectNew, then chooseVoice AI.

Step 8: Pick your look

There is an embed inline option, the standard avatar, and a visualizer. The visualizer looks sharp.

Choose your design, adjust the colors to match the business, and set your button text.

Step 9: Add the URL

Under additional options, enter the client's website URL.

Do not skip this one. The widget will not work without it, and this is the single most common reason someone's first build does not run.

Step 10: Save, then get the code

ClickSave, thenGet Code.

Copy it and embed it on the website. If they already have a site, this is all you are doing.

Now their leads can call in and talk to the agent, or talk to it right there on the page. It answers, it checks availability, it books the appointment, it confirms by email and text, and it does all of it at 7pm on a Saturday.

Part four, find the businesses

Open Google Maps and search a niche plus a city. Roofers in Atlanta. Plumbers in Phoenix. Med spas in your own town.

Scroll the results.

Look for the missing website icon.Google shows a website link when a business has one. Some listings have directions, a phone number, and an address, and no website at all. Those are your first calls. You can sell them the voice agent and the website.

Then look at the bad ones.Click through to the sites that look like nobody has touched them since 2016. You can offer a rebuild, or you can offer just the voice AI widget on what they already have.

That is two lists from one search. You can build a week of outreach in twenty minutes.

Part five, what to charge

Here is how the pricing usually shapes up. These are starting points, not rules.

What you are doing

Setup

Monthly

Full smart website for a business with nothing, built from a template or AI Studio

No setup fee

$297

Full smart website with a setup fee

$1,500 to $3,000

$297

Adding the voice AI widget to an existing website

No setup fee

$297

Pick the number that feels right in your mouth when you say it out loud. $297, $300, whatever you can say without flinching.

And if you are brand new, do your first one or two lower just to get comfortable. There is no shame in that. Getting reps in pays off later, and a client who says yes teaches you more than a price you were afraid to name.

What you charge and what you earn depend entirely on you and the work you put in. Nothing here is a promise of income.

Part six, the demo that does the closing

This is where almost everyone gets it wrong.

They show the client the bot. "Look what it can do for you." The client watches politely and nothing happens.

Do not demo it at them. Hand it to them.

Say this instead: "Go ahead and pretend you are someone calling to book an appointment."

Then be quiet.

They talk to it. It asks for their zip code. It offers times. They pick one. It confirms their email back to them, books it, and offers a text confirmation.

And somewhere in the middle of that, they stop thinking about you and start thinking about the lead they lost last Tuesday at 10am while they were up on a roof.

That is the moment. You barely said a word.

Set up a self-selling demo for your own business

Go toAI Agents,Create Agent, and browse the marketplace again. There are self-selling demo agents built for exactly this, including one called Samantha and another called Self-Selling Sam.

Install one, clickAllow and Install, then find it in your agent list.

Open it and adjust the prompt if you want to. Then test it as if you were a prospect.

Here is what it does. It asks the prospect their name, what industry they are in, who their customers are, what kinds of calls they handle most, and whether they want the assistant to sound friendly or formal. Then it says "based on what you told me, I will now act as your voice assistant," and it role-plays a real call for their business.

A plumber tells it about emergency calls, and thirty seconds later it is handling an after-hours leak, taking the address, confirming the callback number, and promising someone within fifteen minutes.

He is not watching a demo anymore. He is watching his own business run better.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Demoing at the client instead of handing it to them.Let them be the caller. That is the whole close.

  • Building an agent from scratch. The marketplace has one for your niche. Install it and customize.

  • Forgetting the URL in the widget's additional options.Without it the widget does not work.

  • Leaving the custom values empty. The agent needs the business details to handle a call properly.

  • Deploying without testing.Start a web chat and talk to it first, every time.

  • Staying at your beginner price forever.Low for the first one or two is smart. Low for the first ten is a habit.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code to sell AI voice agents?

No. The voice agents come pre-built in the HighLevel marketplace, so you install one and fill in the business details. The website templates are drag and drop, and adding the chat widget means copying a code snippet and pasting it onto the site. No development work is required.

How do I find local businesses that need this?

Search a niche plus a city in Google Maps, then scroll the listings. Businesses with no website icon have no website at all, and they are your easiest conversation. Businesses with outdated sites are your second list, since you can add the voice widget without rebuilding anything.

What should I charge for an AI voice agent?

A common structure is $297 a month recurring, with an optional setup fee of $1,500 to $3,000 when you are also building the website. If you are only adding the widget to an existing site, most people skip the setup fee. Your pricing is your call, and results vary.

Can I add the voice agent to a website I did not build?

Yes. Create the chat widget in HighLevel, enter the business's website URL in the additional options, save, then copy the embed code and place it on their existing site. This is often the faster sale, because nobody has to agree to a redesign first.

How long does it take to set up my first agent?

Most of the time goes into filling in the business details and testing, not building. Installing an agent from the marketplace takes a few minutes, and the chat widget is a handful of clicks plus a code snippet. Plan an afternoon for your first one and far less after that.

Do I need to buy a course to learn this?

No. You canstart a 30-day free trial, install a marketplace agent, and test the whole thing with a real business before spending anything. Thirty days is enough time to build your demo, find prospects on Google Maps, and have your first conversations.

You do not need a client to start. You need a demo.
